Post-grad concerns...

Judging by the fact that you're reading this, someone recently graduated from dental school and is feeling a bit chaotic.

I cannot blame you, I've been there. Actually, I am there, right now.

I recently graduated from Dental School. You know, everyone always thinks that everything is so easy for you! You’re doctor, you can have your own dental office, you’ll earn money, you will have a stable job.

I’m not saying that these are lies. But things don’t come always so easily. No one talks about the money that you need to spend to do these things. But most importantly, no one asks if you feel ready to do so.

Are you?

I’m here to tell you, that it is okay if you don’t feel ready, if you feel like you lack experience because all the patients you’ve seen were from the Dental School clinics. It is also okay if you feel that you want to do a masters degree and not start something on your own asap. It’s okay if you wanna move to another country, study or work abroad. It’s okay if you just want to gain experience by working somewhere else wherever that is. It is SO okay to feel lost and not know what to do.

Want an advice? Everyone starts from somewhere. I know it sounds a little cliche but, it is true. If you feel unsure about what to do, I would recommend you to search for a job. When you start working on your field, not only you’ll gain experience, money and feel more confident, but you will also start seeing what you like to do, what part of dentistry makes you passionate, if you want to gain further knowledge in something specific or if you prefer general dental practice. I know that money might not be so good at the beginning, but trust me it will get better. And even if it doesn’t, NOTHING stops you from searching for a job somewhere else.

To sum up, cause I feel like I made you a little tired, don’t expect to know everything after you graduate. It’s okay to not know everything. You have so many knowledge packed in your brain right now, that will fall into place when you start working. And you will also learn so much more.

Be confident, but not toot much… after all, you are still learning, and you will be learning for as long as you want to evolve.
